Celebrating Black History
History is a really important subject because it helps us learn about things in the past and how they shape the future. So in this post, we talk about Black History.
In the UK, every year in October, we celebrate Black History Month.
We do this to celebrate the black people who have done amazing things in the past to make the world equal.
But even more so, we are beginning to shine the light on black people in the present who are making wonderful contributions to our world, through their skills, kindness, and excellence!
One of our UK heroes is Mary Jane Seacole (1805 – 1881), who was a British Jamaican who set up her own hospital called the “British Hotel” during the Crimean war. She was a nurse, healer, and businesswoman who impacted the lives of many sick people with her healing care and remedies. You can learn more about her by visiting https://www.maryseacoletrust.org.uk/learn-about-mary/
For Black History Month 2021, Britons are celebrating with the "Proud to Be" slogan.

We are Proud to Be telling stories we truly care about that make a difference in the lives of young girls like us, who are curious and excited about the possibilities of the present and future!
We are Proud to Be portraying images of diversity through our stories and articles.
We are Proud to Be able to make every pre-teen girl, feel special and cherished and smart! Oh yes, you are! 🙂
We are Proud to Be going stronger, one year plus since our first publication during the lockdown of summer 2020. Glory!
